Christine Shimrock

   TJM President Christine Shimrock became a jail chaplain at the Hamilton County Justice Center in 2002.  She holds a B.A. English/Professional Writing from Miami University and an M.S. Criminal Justice from Xavier University.  Christine spent 13 years with USA Today Newspaper, most recently as the National Manager, Sales Development/Training.  She is a Catholic Chaplain at Lebanon Correctional Institution, a men's prison north of Cincinnati, where she also teaches Criminal Justice courses for Xavier University.  Christine serves on the National Steering Committee for Temple University's Inside-Out Prison Exchange Program; is on the Executive Committee of the American Catholic Correctional Chaplains Association; Xavier University's Institutional Review Board; and was a facilitator for Cincinnati's Neighbor-to-Neighbor discussions on race relations.  She and her husband, Tim, have five children and are active members of St. Susanna Parish in Mason, Ohio where Christine serves as a City Councilmember.  Christine is a founding member of Transforming Jail Ministries.

TJM Vice President Reverend Larry Nielsen spent 28 years with the Hamilton County Ohio Sheriff Patrol, Larry Nielsenretiring as Patrol Section Commander. He is a Licensed Minister with The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and currently serves as Executive Director of Love INC of Harrison; a staff pastor at Legacy Christian Church of Harrison; and pastor of Shawneespring Community Church, also in Harrison. Larry is a graduate of Roger Bacon High School and the Southern Police Institute at University of Louisville.  He holds a B.A. in Leadership and Management from Trinity College of the Bible and is currently enrolled in The Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond.  Larry has been a Jail Chaplain since 2003, and is a member of the Cincinnati Chapter of the National Association of Church Business Administrators; a member of the American Society on Aging; and is active in the Southeast Indiana Emmaus Community.  He and his wife, Teri, are lifelong residents of the Cincinnati area.  Larry is a founding member of Transforming Jail Ministries and is the author of  Thinking About Jail and Prison Ministries:  A Guide for the Lay Volunteer http://www.amazon.com/Thinking-About-Prison-Ministries-Volunteer/dp/1933594179/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1247243732&sr=8-1

Charlene Calhoun

TJM Treasurer Charlene Calhoun has been a Jail Chaplain in Hamilton County since 1982.  She holds an Associates Degree in Chemistry from the University of Cincinnati and retired as a Research Chemist from Procter & Gamble in 2007 after 27 years of service.  Charlene has been a volunteer chaplain with University Hospital since 1985 and a Team Leader for CBC foreign mission team in Haiti since 1997.  She is a volunteer with the Avondale Community Watch Program.  Charlene is a founding member of Transforming Jail Ministries.

At Large TJM member Roman Walton spent over 30 years with Cincinnati Public Schools, both in administration and teachingRoman Walton.  Born in Wake County, North Carolina, Roman relocated to Cincinnati in 1960 and has served the community in a number of ways.  He holds a B.A. Education from Shaw University and an M.A. Educational Administration from the University of Cincinnati.  He has furthered his graduate studies at the University of Cincinnati, Xavier University, Nova University and Florida Institute of Technology.  Roman has served as a Math Tutor for Losantiville School; a Breakfast Club Teacher for Windsor and Taft Elementary Schools; and a Board Member, Housing Projects for Recovering Females, Rescue Temple Church.  Currently, Roman is a Board Member for the Council of Christian Communions; and a Host for Interfaith Hospitality Network at Walnut Hills Baptist Church.  He and his wife, Ada, live in Amberly Village and attend Kenwood Baptist Church.  They have four children and nine grandchildren and enjoy gardening, singing and antiques.
