Kenton Co. Detention Center

Though TJM has existed on paper since 2007, our work goes back 70 years. The Council of Christian Communities formed in 1952 serving as a liaison between faith communities and local institutions, including jails. Transforming Jail Ministries formed out of the Council of Christian Communions in 2007 to guarantee continuity of jail ministry to adult populations within Hamilton County. In 2021, TJM expanded geographically to now serve the Kenton Co. Detention Center. We train and credential jail chaplains, worship services, and spiritual support for officers and staff at the KCDC.

Adult Jail Chaplaincy

Adult Jail Chaplains volunteer at least two hours of time per week meeting inmate spiritual needs. Our chaplains are responsible for delivering Bibles, devotionals, praying with inmates, aiding corrections staff with death notifications, providing reading glasses, and meeting other needs as necessary.

Worship Team Services

Worship Team Services provide an opportunity for Kenton County inmates to connect with local churches and other faith communities each week. Inmates can expect to worship in a way that is similar to what they might expect if visiting the local faith community leading the service. Worship teams lead inmates in prayer, teaching, and singing. Kentucky Jail Ministries serves as the worship services team for the Kenton Co. Detention Center.

Officer and Staff Chaplaincy

TJM now has an assigned chaplain specifically available to meet officer and staff needs of the Kenton Co. Detention Center. Our officer chaplain conducts wellbeing checks with corrections staff, presides as the chaplain for recruit graduations, and is available for spiritual counsel, prayer, and other needs that arise.
